Gordon notes: "Our goal is to help professionals stand out amongst the crowd, make a lasting impression in the office, and maximize their success in life, all while having fun and making lifelong professional connections."
Students in the program will have the opportunity to:
Michael was privileged to lead an international 3-credit summer semester study abroad program in Innsbruck, Austria, that focused on Organizational Behavior and Leadership Development. The course included both international students from Europe as well as students from the host institution, the Management Center of Innsbruck (MCI), a picturesque campus flanked on all sides by the Alps.
Michael taught program favorite sessions on leadership and developing inner strengths in the professional world and in life. Given the location of the MCI campus, students and professors alike were able to explore educational and historic sites found in Salzburg or Vienna, Austria; Munich, Germany, and cities across Switzerland and Italy, while learning the invaluable and crucial organizational and professional development skills.

Michael was honored to be recognized by ALM and Law.com as Mentor of the Year during the 2022 NJ Legal Awards. Per the nomination page: “It takes talent and determination to become an excellent practitioner, but teaching others is a talent unto itself. Good mentors can take those around them to the next level, whether through formal mentorship programs or simply serving as good leaders and guides. Please consider nominating someone at your firm or organization who takes the time and effort to be a true mentor, and why he or she excels at it.”
Further, Law.com interviewed Michael on how being mentored, and mentoring others, has positively impacted his career. “The role of a mentor is something you surely set out to take, and doing so produces rewards more than one can imagine,” says Gordon, who is being honored by the New Jersey Legal Awards for his contributions as a Mentor and Advisor at Seton Hall, where he mentors countless undergraduate and law students, and serves as the Founder of its Minority Pre-Law Organization. “Having such a strong mentor [as Professor Denis McLaughlin from Seton Hall Law School] helped me realize the value of mentorship and instilled in me the passion to give back and pay it forward. I knew there were so many students just like me who may have been interested in the law, but who had no idea how to start along the right path, how to excel in law school, and how to be the best attorney one can be.” He adds: “It all makes it worthwhile when, years later, my students still stay in touch and keep me abreast of their lives, both personally and professionally.”
Seton Hall University and the Office of the Provost annually honor those Professors and Researchers within the University for their accomplishments in the pursuit of knowledge and education - selecting Professor Michael Gordon as an honoree for Adjunct Faculty Professor of the Year for the Stillman School of Business.
For the eighth consecutive year, Michael was selected as a New Jersey Super Lawyers - Rising Star. Only 5 percent of lawyers in the state are selected to the Super Lawyers list representing more than 70 areas of practice.

Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.

The Baskets & Business Professional Networking Group serves to keep fans, alumni, students, and professionals connected in a sociable way – through a shared affinity for basketball, for Seton Hall, or simply for everyone's similar professional and personal development goals.
Initially started In February 2020 by Seton Hall Professor Michael Gordon and corporate career advisor Joe Testa, the Baskets & Business Network group stemmed from a simple idea to build an informal yet extensive professional networking group with the goal of creating a community of students, graduates, and professionals from across various industries and fields, to connect and share advice and strategies on professional development; connect job seekers with recruiters and talent acquisition professionals; find mentorship opportunities; and post job openings or questions about certain roles or industries.
Originally the "Seton Hall Baskets & Business" group - given its rapid growth in membership, no Seton Hall affiliation is required - we hope everyone will pay it forward and help each other out like our SHU members continue to do.
Why "Baskets & Business?" The real origins of the group come from a unique networking event created by Professor Gordon and Testa, wherein they brought students and alumni together at a Seton Hall Men's Basketball game to to socialize, network and make connections. The event was so well received, this group was created to keep those connections going - and it took a life of its own ever since.
With over 650 current members and counting, the group is filled with a perfect balance of those seeking help and advice as they navigate their career journey or those who've found such success and are ready to pay it forward with their advice and guidance.
Join now and share pragmatic career advice, provide tips and strategies; make connections with like-minded professionals; and offer insights and encouragement to all those out there either starting their careers, working hard to stand out in their careers, or those just trying to figure this whole "career" thing out!
